Dr. Lobdell is board certified in thoracic surgery and has special qualifications in surgical critical care. His research interests include risk modeling and risk-mitigation strategies, digital health and telemedicine, acute kidney injury, goal-directed therapy, metabolic response to injury and sepsis, early extubation, effects of BMI on CV outcomes, glycemic control, and aortic dissection. He has more than 75 publications and 150 presentations associated with these efforts.
Dr. Lobdell is LTC, MC, USAR, Professor & System Director Cardiac Surgery-Quality, Education, and Research at Atrium Health, and Chair of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Workforce on Research Development where he serves on the Council on Quality, Research, and Patient Safety. He is also a member of the research committee for the Thoracic Surgery Foundation and is a Section Editor of SESATS for the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. Additionally, Dr. Lobdell holds memberships with the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, and ERAS Cardiac Surgery (Treasurer). He is an active board member, independent quality consultant for industry, editor, reviewer and serves in various other societal leadership positions.
